Katey was first selected for the White Ferns in 2003 for the tour to India, then reselected two years ago. She recalls what it was like to get the first call up to the squad “It was a pretty special moment,” she says. “All that hard work had paid off and it was very exciting. I actually cried!”
At the age of six she was competing with the boys in her neighbourhood and says her first bat was a Vampire which helped her set some records within the neighbourhood.
A couple of highlights stick in her mind regarding her career. The first is participating in two world cups during 2009, and although the White ferns weren’t successful, Katey enjoyed the experience. Her second memorable moment was scoring 80, her top score, against a strong English side.
She has a full time job working for Telecom, but gets plenty of time off to represent the White Ferns. This summer her goal is to learn to surf and when she’s not working or playing cricket she likes catching up with friends and seeing the stunning scenery around New Zealand.
- Katey is a right handed top-middle order batsman and plays pace and spin very effectively.
- She is also a very competent wicket keeper and nearly always heads the State League wicket keeping tables with catches and stumpings.
- She has been second fiddle more recently to Rachel Priest behind the stumps but is also a very effective fielder.
