Shane Bond has been part of the bowling attack in the BLACKCAPS for a number of years, and although he has been plagued with injuries he is fit and ready to go this season.
Shane made his test debut in 2002 against Australia in Hobart, his ODI debut against Australia in Melbourne in 2002 and his Twenty20 debut against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2005
During his time as a BLACKCAP he has achieved some amazing feats including getting his first 10 wicket bag against Zimbabwe in the second Test at Bulawayo in 2005. Shane is also one of the fastest New Zealand bowlers to gain 50 test wickets and 50 one day international wickets. His best bowling was against Australia during the 2003 world cup where he gained six for 22.
He puts his success down to hard work and appreciating the opportunities he has been given to represent New Zealand at the highest level and he says for a player to make it to the top it’s all about treating people the way you want to be treated, being proactive and having the right attitude. And he says it’s important to never give up.
Before he was an international cricketer Shane was a policeman in Christchurch. He says he wanted to join the police since the age of nine but these days all his energy goes into cricket and spending time with his family.
Shane describes himself as punctual, humorous and sincere and it is no wonder he is humble about his success and current inclusion into the top team.
