Saskia is a new addition to the White Ferns and was selected just before the Twenty20 World Cup in 2009. She says it’s surreal to be part at the team but it is nice to be rewarded for all the hard work she had put in over the years.
She followed her sister’s footsteps into cricket at a young age. She used to go and watch her sister play on a Saturday and will fill in for her sister’s team when they were short of players.
Through school she was the captain of the first 11 and won a major tournament. In her last year of high school she was also the captain of Epsom Girls Grammar’s soccer team which she also led to victory in a national tournament. However she gave up soccer to chase her dream of being an international cricketer.
Saskia gained a sports degree before heading on her big OE. She came back three years ago and found a role within an accounting firm in Auckland. She says she is very lucky to have a supportive workplace which allows her to take time off to represent New Zealand at an international level in cricket.
In her spare time she loves to get out on the Jet Ski in Pauanui and spends time with her friends, family and boyfriend.
