Nicola Browne has been a key player within the White Ferns since 2001. This multi talented sportswoman is not only skilled with the ball and bat; she’s also very skilled on the netball court.

Nicola has made some difficult choices regarding her sporting career. She got her first call up to the White Ferns squad at the same time as she was selected for a development camp for netball. She chose cricket, and now she is one of the top players in the national side.

She says cricket has given her opportunities to compete at the highest level and she still dreams of being a double international, hoping one day to play for the Silver Ferns.

She actually played tennis before playing cricket and was determined to be the next Stephi Graf, however after years of playing beach cricket at Simpson’s Beach in Coromandel over the summer holidays she fell in love with the sport and never looked back.

When Nicola isn’t playing cricket or netball she holds down a job with Netball Waikato and Northern Districts Cricket. She says the two roles compliment her ability to train and play her two chosen sports. She is also a graphic designer by trade.

In her spare time she enjoys water skiing and spending time with her family and friends.

• Nicola was in the finalists for the 2008 ICC Women’s cricketer of the year.
• She has matured into an outstanding middle order batsmen who can control an innings.
• On her day she can be equally devastating with her fast bouncing deliveries.
• Nic was a member of the White Ferns at the last two World Cups and brings a lot of experience to the team.
• She has also represented Waikato at National League level in netball.

1. What advice do you have for girls wanting to get into sport? “Don’t limit yourself, play as many sports as you can, you don’t know what path you’ll go down.
