Luke Ronchi is new to the BLACKCAPS set up, but New Zealand sure is happy to have the services of this former Australia wicket-keeper.
His quickness behind the stumps is well known, but it’s his explosive batting style which is the big draw card for spectators and the 32 year-old has certainly put many a show on so far in his career.
Playing his domestic cricket for Western Australia, Ronchi was picked to represent Australia in 2008 in both the Twenty20 and ODI formats. He performed impressively, but was soon after lured to New Zealand to play for the Wellington Firebirds, and hasn’t looked back since.
He quickly made a name for himself as a danger man in any batting line-up, with plenty of bowlers quickly discovering how good he was at hitting the long-ball. He continued to excite and in January 2013, much to the pleasure of the New Zealand public, became eligible to play for the BLACKCAPS.
After a couple of outings for New Zealand A and some more dynamic displays for Wellington, Luke was selected in the BLACKCAPS ODI side to face England and play in the ICC Champions Trophy.
He is a threat to any team around the world – a great player to have on our side.
