Kane Williamson

At 22 years old Kane has certainly achieved a lot at the top level already.

The talented right-handed batsman forced his way into the team after a string of strong performances for Northern Districts. His solid technique and impressive footwork is already trademark and while his strike rate isn’t particularly high, it’s his persistence that the BLACKCAPS require.

During his high school years Kane was known to have an outrageous average of 400 – nobody could get him out.

Kane lead the New Zealand U-19 team in Bangladesh, not only showing his ability with the bat, but also proving himself to be a capable right-arm offbreak bowler as well. He holds the Northern Districts record for highest total in a Four Day Test, an astounding 284 not out.

In 2010 he played his first One Day International against India. He was bowled for a duck. His Test debut in India though could not have been much different. Not fazed by the tough conditions, he went on to score an incredible 131 against an experienced Indian bowling line-up. His performance raised eye-brows around the world and had his colleagues label him as having the potential to become one of New Zealand’s best ever batsman.

Another of Kane's highlights came in the 2011/12 Test series against South Africa. The classy right-hander provided a match saving century in the third Test in Wellington, against what many considered one of the best bowling line-ups to have ever toured New Zealand.

He continues to be tipped by many as a future a star of the BLACKCAPS batting line-up, a claim which is well justified by the start he has  made on the international stage.

Kane is described by many as a cricket nerd, but enjoys playing the guitar and heading to the beach in his time off.
