Iain spends half his time in New Zealand and the other half in England playing cricket. He hails from Wellington and is known for his right arm fast bowling.

He made his Test debut against Australia in 2005 and his ODI debut for the BLACKCAPS in 2008 against England.

Iain’s earliest cricketing memory was playing at the age of six and learning to ride his bike on the way to the games. He says his most memorable moment so far in his career came when he took six wickets against West Indies earlier this year and says it was fantastic that his mum and dad were there for that momentous occasion.

He is also a very talented indoor cricketer, gaining three silver medals for New Zealand in three world cups.

When he’s in New Zealand you can find him in Wellington enjoying the café scene. “Wellington is one of the coolest cities,” he says. “I like the shopping, the cafes and the art. Wellington’s got everything.”

Iain is also a fully qualified teacher. He studied out of Massey University in Palmerston North, with a focus on physical education. He’s also a very talented soccer player, playing centre back in his younger years and he enjoys writing and travelling in his spare time.

1. Where is your favourite place to play?
“I love the Basin and Adelaide Oval. I haven’t had huge success there, but that’s how cricket grounds should be with stands and big grassy embankments.”
2. Any advice for those who want to be a BLACKCAP?
“It’s not necessarily about ability, it’s about determination. Enjoy it and you will succeed.”
3. What is your secret talent?
“I have a huge movie collection and I thoroughly enjoy cooking.”
