Daniel Vettori

Daniel first graced the BLACKCAPS team as a young and enthusiastic 18 year old. These days he is one of the top (if not the top) left arm spin bowler in the world and he has lead New Zealand to victories over the likes of England and the West Indies.

Daniel Vettori, was the youngest ever Test player for New Zealand, debuting in 1997 in Wellington against England. He also made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Christchurch in 1997.

Since then he’s secured his place in the rankings when it comes to both batting and bowling. He has also become a strong hand in the mid-lower order batting rank and brings out a captain’s knock when required.

He’s taken over 300 test wickets and scored over 3000 runs. It’s hard to believe that this talented captain has only just turned 30.

Daniel has had some amazing highlights to date. From representing the Northern Knights in the domestic competition to taking 12 wickets in one Test against Australia in 2000. He says his biggest highlight was winning the test series at Lord’s against England a few years ago and making it through to the Champions Trophy final against Australia in 2009.

He says the BLACKCAPS are a great bunch of guys with a lot of potential and he hopes they won’t let the fans down this season. “Thanks for all the support and we hope to live up to expectations this summer.”
