Brent Arnel is one of the newest additions to the BLACKCAPS and although he was chosen in the squad for the 2008/2009 season, he is yet to make it onto the park.
Brent hails from Te Awamutu, a small town in Northern Districts. He is known for quick and deceptive pace with the ball. He plays his domestic cricket for the Northern Knights, making his first class debuts in 2006.
Growing up, Brent knew he wanted to do something with sport and teaching, so he headed off to teacher’s college in Hamilton. Eventually he would like to take his skills overseas and coach younger players.
In his younger years Brent also excelled at Basketball and high jump. He even went to a national athletic meet and although Brent is multi talented when it comes to sport he decided to pursue a career in cricket.
When Brent isn’t play cricket or teaching he enjoys following other sports, especially basketball, and like many of his BLACKCAPS team mates he enjoys fantasy baseball. He is currently in the process of buying a house with his wife and enjoys spending time online shopping.
Quick fire questions
1. Do you have a secret talent?
“Yeah I can juggle. I learnt how to do it when I was at teachers college.”
2. What advice do you have for up and coming cricketers?
“With cricket you have to concentrate on what you can control. If you are a bowler you should worry about your run up, how you are holding the ball and the release. You can’t control what a batsman or fielder is going to do. Focus on what you can do and you will be far more satisfied with the game.”
3. What are three words to describe you?
“Dedicated, loyal and friendly.”
