Promising left-arm spinner Mark Houghton became a fulltime member of the Firebirds for the first time in 2008/09 after previously representing them in several matches across all three forms of the game.

He impressed on debut for the Firebirds at the start of 2007 when he took 3 for 24 against the State Central Stags in a Twenty20 fixture at home at the Allied Nationwide Finance Basin Reserve and captured three more in the second innings on first class debut against the State Northern Knights.

He featured in the State Championship, State Shield and State Twenty20 competitions in 2008/09. He is also a valuable lower order batsman and captains his Taita club side.
