Leighton Burtt joins the Wellington Firebirds in 2011-12 for his second season and is raring to go after missing all of his first summer as a Wellington contracted player due to an Achilles injury.
Burtt joined Wellington from his home province Canterbury last season, after four consecutive years with the Wizards. Burtt has built up a good track record as a tall, strongly built wicket-taking opening bowler who generates good pace and swing and troubles top order batsmen.
Going into the 2011-12 season, Burtt had taken 76 wickets in 24 first-class matches with a best return of 6 for 108. He had also played 22 domestic One-Day matches and has taken 35 wickets with a best return of 5 for 26 and 12 HRV Cup Twenty matches, taking 12 wickets with a best of 2 for 16.
