Wellington Firebirds debut: v Central Stags 2007-08 (first-class)
Best bat: 110 v Northern Knights, Wellington 2008-09 (first-class)
Left hand opening batsman Josh Brodie will be hoping for an injury free 2011-12 after twin setrbacks prematurely ended his summer last season. After being selected in the Firebirds’ One-Day team for the first time his domestic 50-over campaign was over after four matches due to a shoulder injury. A few weeks later, having returned to full fitness, Brodie broke his finger while batting in the nets on the eve of the resumption of the Plunket Shield competition.
The finger was the same one he had broken the previous summer that meant he also missed the entire second half of the 2010/11Plunket Shield. This was after scoring 402 runs at 44.66 with four fifties and a century prior to Christmas.
Brodie completed his maiden first-class century against the Northern Knights in December 2008 in just his fourth first-class match after being stuck on 99 not out at stumps the previous evening. That same summer he scored a century for New Zealand A against the England Lions. He added a third first-class hundred in his second year in 2009-10.
In taking five catches in one innings against Otago in round seven of the Plunket Shield in 2008-09, Brodie equalled the mark of five catches in an innings by a Wellington fielder, set by Jack Lamason in 1938-39 and John Morrison in 1980-81.
