Johnsonville captain Michelle Bunkall on her way to scoring 108 on Saturday against Wellington Collegians, her maiden club century setting up victory for her side in a closely fought One-Day match.
Johnsonville and Hutt District both opened the Wellington women’s 50-over club competition on Saturday with well-earned wins.
All games were played at Natatoa Domain ground in Plimmerton in windy but pleasant conditions and some big scores were made.
The game between Johnsonville and Wellington Collegians saw Johnsonville score 241, with the highlight being Michelle Bunkall scoring 108, her maiden club century. In reply Collegians came up 13 runs short, ending on 228 for 5 after 50 overs. Briar Cloak with 77 and Eimear Richardson with 64 were the main contributors for Collegians. Johnsonville Captain and centurion Michelle Bunkall said: “It was great to get my first century under my belt but even better that the team had an important win.”
In the second game, Hutt District had White Ferns Lucy Doolan and Sophie Devine playing for them and they scored 282 for 8. Doolan top scored with 91, Wellington Blaze keeper-batswoman Andrea Stockwell scored 61 and Devine made a quick fire 43 not out. In reply Onslow were 191 for 9 with Suzie McDonald scoring a nice 60.
This coming weekend’s matches see Collegians play Onslow and Hutt take on Johnsonville. All games are 8 a side as The Wellington Blaze begin their pre season campaign against the Northern Spirit in Taupo.
