Cricket Wellington has confirmed that Australian speedster Shaun Tait and hard-hitting batsman Travis Birt will join the Wellington Firebirds for their opening four matches of the HRV Twenty20 this coming season.
Tait, a short-form cricket specialist these days and a highly experienced Twenty20 bowler, is known to many fans for his electric pace, having bowled the second fastest delivery ever recorded, a 161.1kph thunderbolt against England at Lords in 2010.
Following the 2011 World Cup, Tait retired from international cricket and has been a regular Twenty20 player in various teams and competitions around the world, including the Big Bash League in Australia, and for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He has recently completed a season of county cricket Twenty20, playing for Essex.
Birt is an experienced first-class cricketer originally from West Australia, whom has starred for the Hobart Hurricanes in the last few seasons of the Big Bash League. He has played four international T20 matches for Australia.
The matches to involve both Tait and Birt are:
Tuesday 19 November: Wellington Firebirds vs Northern Knights, Hawkins Basin Reserve, 4.00pm
Friday 22 November: Wellington Firebirds vs Central Stags, Westpac Stadium, 7.10pm
Saturday 23 November: Wellington Firebirds vs Auckland Aces, Westpac Stadium, 7.10pm
Friday 29 November: Auckland Aces v Wellington Firebirds, Eden Park, Auckland, 7.00pm
The matches on 22, 23 and 29 November will all be broadcast live by Sky TV.
