Scots College win Premier Youth Twenty20 final
The Scots College First XI easily accounted for Wellington College on Saturday to take out the 2012 Premier Youth Twenty20 title.
Scots College successfully defended their 20-over score of 125 for 8, bundling home side Wellington College out for just 72 in reply to win by 53 runs.
Josh Lawrence anchored the Scots College innings with 41 off 48 balls batting at number three. Some late hitting by Tim Rowe (24 not out off 18 balls) and 20 extras boosted Scots to a competitive total. For Wellington College, Charming Patel and Jack Vale both took two wickets.
This proved more than enough, with Rowe striking early in the 3rd over to have Wellington College 10 for 1. They lost their next wicket on 27 in the sixth over and the run chase steadily went downhill from there. Only opener Sam Collier (14 off 26) stuck around.
But Collier became the fifth batsman dismissed, bowled by Lawrence who finished with the outstanding figures of 4 for 6 off 4 overs. Four other bowlers took one wicket each, including Andrew Graham who took 1 for 13 off 4 overs, while two run outs didn’t help Wellington College’s cause. They were bowled out in 16 overs.
Short scoreboard:Scots College 125-8 (J Lawrence 41, T Rowe 24*, P Gluck 16; J Vale 2-17, C Patel 2-20) beat Wellington College 72 (S Collier 14, S Sargentina 11*; J Lawrence 4-6) by 53 runs.
