Otago Cricket today confirmed an initial twenty man squad to prepare for the Champions League Twenty20 in India.
Fifteen of the twenty players named today will travel to India in September to represent Otago on the world stage.
Complicating the naming of the final fifteen is the unknown availability of overseas players. With County Cricket being in its final stages when the Champions League starts the fortunes of Essex & Gloucestershire will play a role in determining if Ryan ten Doeschate and James Fuller are released. The Hyderabad Sunrisers involvement in the qualifying stage of the Champions League means confirmation of Nathan McCullum’s availability is also yet to be finalised.
Coach Vaughn Johnson said “it is exciting to be able to announce a squad with the depth and quality we have named today. With ten players in the squad having international experience, if everyone is available we will have a very competitive side come September in India. These players will now go through extensive skill and fitness training with the hope that we will be able to organise some outdoor match practice in August.”
Dates for the naming of the final fifteen and confirmation of preparation details will be announced as that information becomes available.
