The recent arrival of Leigh Kasperek from Scotland has seen records broken in female club cricket. Kasperek, the former Scottish, Essex, and Western Fury player, top scored for her Johnsonville club on Saturday with 164 not out. Thanks to her batting Johnsonville amassed 335. In reply, Wellington Collegians made just 155, with Allex Evans scoring 55.
Kasperek has decided to commit to New Zealand in a bid to make the White Ferns and will remain based in Wellington through the qualifying period.
In the other women’s Premier match, Hutt District scored a competitive 221 against Onslow. Andrea Stockwell was again in the runs, making 59, while Rebecca Burns made 53. Retired former Blaze stalwart Amanda Cooper took 4 for 34 for Onslow. In reply, Onslow could only get to 136 with Blaze opener Renee Moffit scoring a well complied 53.
Female club cricket takes a break this coming weekend, except for the Secondary Schools team that will play a Twenty20 match against Collegians on Saturday.
