INTERVIEW: Kate Pulford reflects on the win over India

On the White Ferns approach…
“Our philosophy going into this tournament is to take one game at a time.”

On stepping up the intensity….
“We had some points that we really needed to work on from the England game and intent was one of the big ones so we’re very pleased with the win out there.”

On playing on the quicker North Sydney surface…
“It’s always nice having the ball coming on as a batter and as a bowler seeing it come through to the keeper at a good height. When you put your back into it you get something out of the pitch.”

On where her game has come from…
“I’ve had a reasonable State [League] season this year and this game in particular I needed to remember that feeling – the feeling of getting bat on ball, on being able to hit it cleanly.”

On the pressure of getting the important win over India…
“For me personally, I just put that out of my mind and it just had to be another game that we had to win.  Otherwise you can get caught up in the moment and we couldn’t afford to do that.”

On the outstanding individual performance…
“It’s always nice to contribute and I’m so proud that we’re through to the next game.  That we’re still alive and hopefully on our way to the final.”

On facing the spin of India…
“We knew that was what we were going to face and we’ve been working pretty hard throughout the winter and pre/post the Rose Bowl series to combat spin.”

On returning to international cricket after five years…
“I’ve never sort of lost hope of making it back into the White Ferns. I guess it hadn’t really been in the forefront of my mind for this World Cup so it was a bit of a surprise but I’d never lost hope and am so proud and honored to be here representing New Zealand.  It’s a great team atmosphere and just love every moment of it.”

On the possibility of playing England in the final…
“We are just looking ahead to Pakistan at the moment.  The problem with looking too far ahead is that you can lose sight of what’s happening in the present and Pakistan will be our focus for the next couple of days.”
