White Ferns batting star Sara McGlashan's latest diary entry from the ICC World Twenty20.
Diary entry four
One game down annd maximum points gained.
The day started off with a nice team walk in the morning to losen up followed by a good breakfast. Weetbix then baked beans on toast yet again. Think i may need to change this as I've had it every morning which can’t be a good thing.
Our bags had to be lined up outside the hotel for the sniffer dog to check out. One of the dogs was very cute but not so good at retrieving the ball the policeman kept throwing.
A quick sniff of the bags and the bus and we were away. We had to go through metal detectors upon arrival at the ground.... we all passed except for our security man!
The ground is lovely with amazing facilities. There’s an indoor training area with weights and a recovery pool to use. The block stretches from one side of the field to the other allowing the bowlers to have a good warm up before the match.
Aussie won the toss and decided to bat. Sian (player of the day) and Soph did a great job of starting things off and before we knew it we had them 51-6. They ended up getting 123/8 which we felt was about 20-30 runs shy of posting a good total but with T20 anything can happen!
After losing a wicket early on Mase and Batesy shared an unbeaten partnership of a hundred to see us through with a few overs to spare and plenty of wickets in hand. The great innings by Mase leading from the front and good support from Batesy completed a good outting for the White Ferns.
A mention must go to the great support we had from family and friends on the sideline who enjoyed the music and a couple of quiets throughout the match. Hopefully they are up for another vocal day tomorrow as we take on West Indies in another important match.
