INTERVIEW: Suzie Bates after the win over the West Indies

 Suzie Bates
We catch up with White Ferns star Suzie Bates after their first ICC World Twenty20 win against the West Indies.

How did you enjoy your innings today?

“It was fun.  I was pleased that I played my game and hit straight and hard.”

Your partnership with Lucy Doolan was a feature of the innings.  Did it go to plan?

“I enjoy batting with Lucy as she plays a different game to me and accesses different parts of the ground so we complement each other well.  She hit 3 huge sixes and I was disappointed not to hit any!!”

You were very dominant in the field today taking one outstanding outfield catch – were you happy with your fielding?

“I love fielding and probably had more to do today than in match against Australia and I was really happy with my catch.”

You have a day off tomorrow ahead of your final group match against South Africa – how will you be spending it?

“We have training in the morning and I have to sit two university exams on tour so I hope to sit one of them tomorrow sometime.”

How has the study been going?

“I have had two good bursts but with our busy schedule and the men’s matches on TV I have been distracted – I will need to put in a good final burst.”

You are nearly through to the semi finals so that must be exciting?

“Yes, but we won’t know where we are going until after we play South Africa but it will be fun to play at one of the bigger grounds ahead of a men’s match – we have already done that at the SCG this year but to do it at this tournament will be very special.”
