The Wellington Firebirds have completed the list of 14 players to be offered contracts for the 2013-14 season, with Iain McPeake offered the final contract.
Each Major Association offered between 9-14 contracts in the first round on 26 July with the final 1-5 contracts being offered on 9 August. The Firebirds had offered 13 contracts in the first round.
Cricket Wellington Chief Executive, Peter Clinton, said "Iain deserves this opportunity after a couple of seasons of strong performances at both club cricket and Provinical A levels. It is great the Firebirds are continuing to develop local talent and I know Iain is excited and motivated by the opportunity".
McPeake is a homegrown player who won the Premier Men's Club Cricketer of the Year at last seasons Club Awards. He also received the Bruce Murray Medal for best and fairest player, the J Atkin Cup for the best bowling performance and the Ron Murray Cup for the most wickets in the Premier Grade. His 81 wickets were the most in a season since 1917-18 when Stan Brice took 93.
Meanwhile, Glenn Pocknall is the new Wellington Firebirds Assistant Coach. He has coached at all levels below the Firebirds for Wellington over many years. Director of cricket, Robbie Kerr, said "I am delighted to welcome Glenn to the Wellington Firebirds coaching staff. He has an outstanding work ethic and fantastic organisation and communication skills. His appointment has been extremely well received by the players he will be working with".
Pocknall has spent the last two winters coaching in Surrey and Ireland. His experience will also make him responsible for the Wellington Provincial A side.
