Five centuries in Wellington club cricket One-Day matches

Five centuries were scored in third round Wellington club cricket Wilkinson Ewen Chatfield Cup One-Day matches on Saturday, with Wellington Firebirds Stephen Murdoch, Harry Boam, and Scott Kuggeleijn, Henry Walsh and Barry Rhodes  all reaching three figures.

Karori  amassed 372 for 3 against Wainuiomata. This was due to a club record partnership for all wickets in senior cricket by Murdoch and Boam. Murdoch made 159 and Boam 118. Wainuiomata managed 126 with Jarred Sewell taking 4 for 20.
The biggest upset of the first day’s play of the season played on grass was the 117-run win by last year’s Hazlett Trophy club University over Pearce Cup runners-up Naenae Old Boys. The students scored 244 for 7 with Matt Lewis scoring 66. Naenae could only score 127, with Simon Thomas taking the best bowling figures of the afternoon with 5 for 27.
Last season’s champions Eastern Suburbs defeated Johnsonville by 10 wickets. Johnsonville could only make 82 with Jamie Gibson and Ronald Karaitiana taking four wickets each. Easts knocked off the required  runs in 14 overs.
Onslow made 237 for 9 with Rhodes getting 126 but Norths got their target with 27 balls to spare. Neeraj Chawla  was unbeaten on 78.
Wellington Collegians made 258 for 6 with Kuggeleijn scoring 118. He then took 3 for 48 as Hutt fell 31 runs short being all out for 227. Fraser Colson top scored with 85
Taita made 231 for 6 thanks to Walsh scoring 109. Mark Houghton made 55 and then took 4 for 31 when Upper Hutt ,made 118.

Eastern Suburbs 82-0 (Ben Orton 55*) beat Johnsonville 82 (Ronald Karaitiana 4-12, Jamie Gibson 4-24)  by 10 wickets
