Eight centuries scored in Saturday’s club cricket

Runs were the order of the day in the second Round of Wilkinson Pearce Cup and Hazlett Trophy games, with eight centuries and one double century being scored.

The highlight of the day went to Petone-Eastbourne’s Matthew Goldsbury who scored an unbeaten 202 against Naenae Old Boys.

Goldsbury was aided by Mark Hewson who scored 128 as they set a new record in Wellington Club Cricket with a stand of 279 for the sixth wicket. They came together at 36 for 5 and Hewson departed at 315. The previous sixth wicket record was 251 made by Jack Lamason and Cyril Parsloe in 1932-33  Petone-Eastbourne amassed 392 for 7. In reply Naenae were 66 for 2 at stumps.

 In the Pearce Cup, holders and recently crowed One-Day champions Eastern Suburbs scored 325 for 2 against Wellington Collegians. Ankur Bassi  (117) and Chamika Gajanayaka (142*) put on 193 for the second wicket. Collegians were 107 for 5 at the close of play with Seb Logan taking 3 for 19.

Karori batted first against Taita and declared at 335 for 7. The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten 102 from Tom Blundell. Taita had reached 60 for 3 by stumps.

Onslow made 338 against University. Daniel McKeefry made 80 and Andrew Watson 78 not out, Simon Thomas took 6 for 73 for the students who were 30 for 2 in reply.

 Hutt District batted first against the Easts Reserve side and made a mammoth 402 for 6. Darren Cudby plundered an unbeaten 156 from 137 balls and Kieran Lennon scored 134 from 142 deliveries as they had a fifth wicket stand of 209. Ian McPeake and Fergus Martin both took four wickets as Easts were bundled out for 77. Following on they were 1 without loss.

North City got 303 against Johnsonville with Chris Parr scoring 103 and Michael Pollard 72. David Hudson took 3 for 73 for Johnsonville who had made 119 for 4 in reply.

Upper Hutt made 212 against Wainuiomata with Jason Logan and Craig Foster both snaring three wickets. Wainuiomata had its best day of the season when they were 180 for 4 at the end of day one Matt Wills was unbeaten on 62
