Recently named New Zealand A Coach Grant Bradburn held a training camp in Maroochydore, Australia last week, as the team begin building for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka and India.
We asked him how the camp went and what he has planned for the rest of the team's preparation...
You’ve just come back from a week in Maroochydore with the New Zealand A team, what was the focus of the trip?
The whole week was based around red ball preparation and giving the squad a chance to bank some valuable grass wicket time training in quality conditions.
It was your first trip away with the group, what’d you learn from your time away?
I’ve been really impressed with the quality of character in this NZ A group. It was a tough week physically but work ethics were outstanding and everybody is expecting and preparing for a challenging tour.
What did you make of the facilities over in Australia?
The Maroochydore Cricket Club is an outstanding venue. With four ovals and quality grass training wickets, coupled with summer temperatures, it is a great environment for training.
Was there a player who particularly caught your eye during the camp?
There are many young players who have reached this level for the first time. It was really noticeable how every member of the team is well respected and it is the experienced players who have led that humble, hard working, respectful attitude.
You tour Sri Lanka A and India A in September. Will the team be doing any further preparation ahead of this?
Yes, we have an excellent build up to these tough tours. The players are now back training in their Major Associations before the NZ A squad heads back to Maroochydore for another week of intense build up. This time we will focus on the white ball and train our one day game.
What goals do you have during this tour?
As a team we have spoken a lot about the challenge of facing quality spin that we will likely encounter. We have discussed and trained the art of playing spin and this would be one of the key areas where we are looking to learn and develop our skills.
