Cricket Wellington has appointed Anthony Stuart as the new head coach of the State Wellington Firebirds.
Former Australian international bowler Stuart, 36, is currently on the New South Wales coaching staff.
He said: “I’m under no illusions, it’ll be tough. But I’m looking forward to it. I’ve coached at all levels with New South Wales, with the juniors, club cricket and elite so I have my own ideas on the game.
“The players undoubtedly have the physical skills but my job will be giving the players a chance to progress to International One-Dayers or Tests: whatever the best way for them to progress as individuals, and as a team.”
Stuart, who has served as the state’s junior development officer and fast bowling coach, expects to arrive in New Zealand in September.
