Canterbury completed an outright win over Northern Districts to take the lead in the National Under-19 tournament being played at Lincoln University:
Canterbury declared their second innings on 259 for six, leaving ND 355 to win in 52 overs.
ND started well, but collapsed, losing their last six wickets for 31 runs to match their first-innings total of 157. Spinners Tim Muir and Henry Fisher did the damage, taking five wickets each.
Auckland shares second place with Central Districts after their 46-run win against Wellington.
The capital side declared on their overnight score 129 for six, Auckland replying with 102 for one off 15 overs before declaring leaving Wellington to get 335 to win outright in 98 overs.
Michael Green’s 117 and a partnership of 129 for the fourth wicket between Green and Ronald Karaitiana (44) kept the chase alive, but three wickets to Ajaz Patel and Greg Morgan helped Auckland win with nine overs and 46 runs to spare.
Otago claimed a win on first innings against CD at Lincoln Green, after defending a massive total of 484.
Michael Taiaroa led the charge 139 off 221 balls, but the last five wickets fell for 13 runs to see Otago finish with a first innings win. Peter Breen took 3/102 and Ollie Newton 3/56.
One-Day matches between ND and Wellington, Auckland and Otago and CD and Canterbury begin on Thursday.
