Knights earn lead

A solid middle-order effort led by nightwatchman Bruce Martin and wicketkeeper Peter McGlashan earned Northern Knights first-innings points and a sizeable lead over Auckland Aces in Gisborne.

Martin, elevated up the order to first drop, made 46 and McGlashan 51 as the State Champions made 283 in reply to the Aces’ 186.

Captain James Marshall (33), ODI BLACKCAP Daniel Flynn (38) and tail-enders Graeme Aldridge (32) and Tim Southee (25) also contributed.

Colin de Grandhomme led the bowling figures for the visitors to the Harry Barker Reserve with four wickets for 65 runs from 21.4 overs.
