New Zealand Cricket today announced that Martin Guptill has been ruled out of today’s ICC World Twenty20 match against Pakistan.
Guptill sustained a minor strain to his left hamstring while fielding in the match against Bangladesh on Friday. Medical staff believe the best course of action is to allow Guptill time to recover and expect him to make a full recovery in time for the first super eight fixture if the team qualifies.
BLACKCAPS Physiotherapist, Paul Close, said: “Martin Guptill had some hamstring tightness after the Twenty20 match against Bangladesh.
“He has been receiving treatment for the past 36 hours but has not responded sufficiently to be considered for today’s match.
“We are confident he will be available for the team’s next Twenty20 match if the side qualifies for the next stage of the tournament.”
The BLACKCAPS play their second pool match against Pakistan in Pallekele at 3.30pm local time, 10.00pm NZ time today.
