Grant Elliot’s half-century helped State Wellington Firebirds to victory over State Central Stags at Nelson’s Trafalgar Park.
Elliot’s 78, the match’s top score, helped Wellington attain a revised total after rain cut their target to 232.
The Stags made 241 for five in their 50 overs, with a strong performance from their middle order.
Mathew Sinclair returned to good effect, making 67 in a century fourth-wicket stand with Greg Hay, who made 55 on his State Shield debut.
Ewen Thompson’s 50 not out made up the bulk of an unbroken stand of 74 with Bevan Griggs (20 no).
But Elliot, supported by 49 by Stu Mills, helped Wellington to a strong position, with a four-wicket victory completed by Luke Woodcock (24) and Duwayne Bowden (21).
