Rob Nicol starred for the Canterbury Wizards with the bat and the ball in a thrilling five wicket win over the Auckland Aces at Colin Maiden Park, Auckland.
Nicol got the Wizards off to a flyer in pursuit of 145, lashing 52 from 35 with four boundaries and three sixes.
New captain Peter Fulton made a brisk 26 before the Aces fought back in the middle stages to run the Wizards close.
It came down the last over with ten runs required and the experienced Daryl Tuffey was handed the ball. It was the perfect start with McMillan clean bowled bringing Kruger van Wyk to the crease. The wicket keeper batsman launched the first ball he faced for six allowing them to hit two singles and two to seal the win with one ball to spare.
Johannes Myburgh was there at the end on 37.
Aces import Ravi Bopara was the pick of their bowlers and batsmen, taking one for 20 after top scoring with 55.
Aranu Kitchen was the only other Aces batsman to make an impression with 31 from 24.
It is the Auckland Aces second defeat after losing to the Northern Knights on Saturday. The Canterbury Wizards join unbeaten teams the Central Stags and Otago Volts on four points.
