Otago Volts international Suzie Bates caused much head turning with a starring role in her team's Action Twenty20 cricket win over Canterbury.
Having contributed an unbeaten 67 at better than run-a-ball pace in Otago's 114 for five, Bates turned around and wrecked Canterbury's reply by taking the outstanding figures of five for 15.
Canterbury, who had already qualified for the final against Wellington on February 5, were held to 101 for nine, with Bates their main obvious obstacle operating at first change.
Only three Cantabrians reached double figures, Janet Brehaut the best of them with 40 off 42 balls.
Inclement weather meant this was the only match played today, with the others featuring Northern Districts against Auckland at Hamilton and Central Districts against Wellington at Palmerston North falling foul of rain.
