Sparks suffer for abandoned match

The Otago Sparks play-off chances took a massive blow today, with their One Day match against the Northern Spirit abandoned due to rain.

Only 15.2 overs were managed before players were forced from the field, with the Spirit sitting on 39 without loss.

The Sparks needed to win the game to stay in control of second position on the points table. The draw means they only pick up two points and will now need the Canterbury Magicians to lose tomorrow, while they’ll need a win.

It was a disappointing end to an important match. The players all get another chance tomorrow.
