India have won the rain-affected opening
one-day cricket international against New Zealand by 53 runs at
McLean Park here tonight.
Set a revised target of 216 from 28 overs after a second rain
delay, New Zealand were 162 for nine at the close.
India posted 273 for four in their innings, captain Mahendra
Singh Dhoni top scoring with an unbeaten 84.
Harbhajan Singh took three wickets in four balls as New Zealand
collapsed. The spinner ended with figures of three for 27.
The second match of the five-game series is in Wellington on
Friday.
