Blaze edge past Sparks

The Wellington Blaze edged past the Otago Sparks by 13 runs in the Twenty20 match at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln.

After making 126 for five batting first, the Otago batsmen struggled to counter the tight bowling and fell to  113 for six in reply.

Lauren Ebsary top scored for Wellington with 43 off 30 deliveries and Michelle Bunkall claimed the team-best three for 13.

Otago made a solid start to their run chase with opener Sarah Tsukigawa making a quick steady 22 and Suzie Bates hitting 31.

Victoria Abbott did her best with an unbeaten run-a-ball 33 but wickets falling in the 15th, 16th and 17th over put an end to any hopes of victory.

Wellington now sit in second place on the table with 12 points.
