Catch the Spirit
Catch the Spirit is part of the ICC Centenary and is an opportunity to celebrate the spirit and diversity of the great game of cricket. The spirit of cricket is captured by the unique respect and fairness in which the game is played.

As part of this the ICC are presenting each full member country with 50 ICC Centenary Medals for those volunteers that have dedicated their lives to nurturing and supporting the game. Sir Richard Hadlee will present medals to 10 Wellington-based volunteers during the lunch interval on the first day of the third Test as it forms part of a total of 50 individuals across the country from nominations made to New Zealand Cricket.

ICC Centenary
The ICC was founded on 15 June 1909. Both the organisation and the sport have come a long way since then. What began as a three-country alliance between Australia, England and South Africa has grown to a global family embracing over 100 countries and millions of players, volunteers and supporters.
The ICC Centenary is an opportunity to look back at 100 wonderful years of cricket. But it is also a time to look forward. To celebrate the legends that have shaped the game and those who selflessly dedicate their lives to nurturing the next generation.
The ICC Centenary will embrace and celebrate the sport in all 104 Member countries through a range of activities based around three pillars:
- Catch the spirit
- Celebrate cricket’s heritage
- Great cricket events
Hall of Fame
New Zealand cricketing great Sir Richard Hadlee has been named as one of the inaugural inductees of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame has been established by the ICC as part of its Centenary Year celebrations during 2009.
Hadlee joins such cricketing legends as WG Grace, Don Bradman, Garfield Sobers and Sunil Gavaskar as one of the initial 55 inductees. He is the only New Zealander named.
Iconic all-rounder Sir Richard Hadlee will launch the ICC centenary medal on Friday during New Zealand’s Catch the Spirit week which will be celebrated during the third Test between New Zealand and India at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
