Age Range: • 13 - 18 years [Years 9 and 13]
Skill Descriptors: • Encourage physical activity• Fast, action packed, modified cricket game that can be played in 30-60 minutes• Reduce team size [6 a-side] so all players have the chance to display their cricket skills• Use a minimum of cricket equipment
Objectives: • To provide a fast and fun version of the game in which all players have an equal opportunity to compete• To offer schools a format of the game that can be played over a lunchtime or in the duration of a physical education lesson• To encourage a wide audience of secondary school students to play the game and enjoy the experience• To utilise the game to foster an interest in other formats of cricket and for players to register in school and/or club teams and for schools to create teams to enter them into local, regional and/or national competitions [eg. Gillette Cup, NZCT Cups]
Outcomes: To provide participants with opportunities:• To have fun and enjoy the experience• To increase their level of physical activity• To increase the accessibility of the game to participants of all skill and/or ability levels• To increase participation by secondary school students in the game• To encourage schools to enter their teams in the national secondary schools’ cricket competitions
Resources: To support ‘Slog Sixes’ New Zealand Cricket has devised a resource that outlines the objectives, required equipment and rules for this modified format of the game. It also includes a special scoresheet so that team scores can be recorded.
