Bates wins domestic overall Mitre 10 MVP award

Today’s final day of the domestic cricket competition for 2009/2010 has confirmed the winners of the overall Mitre 10 MVP and the Plunket Shield MVP awards.

Auckland Aces pace bowler Michael Bates held onto his number one ranking this week to take home the MVP silverware. He overtook Stags bowler Ewen Thompson last week as the overall leader and secured his number one ranking this week taking 6/55 against the Canterbury Wizards in the final round of the Plunket Shield in Auckland.

Bates said he was determined to contribute in a positive way to the Aces’ Plunket Shield, Twenty20 and One-Day campaigns. "The most pleasing thing about winning the Mitre10 MVP rankings is that my individual performances have contributed to the success of the team in the one day series and HRV cup," he said

"It was not until my five wicket bag in the last match that I realised I had moved passed Ewen Thompson. My consistency throughout the Plunket Shield was the key to coming out on top this season.

“It’s a nice reward for a long season of bowling. It was pretty cool to make it to two finals this season and it’s unfortunate we weren’t successful but they were good fun. I’m looking forward to putting my feet up tomorrow!”

Bates took 31 wickets in the Plunket Shield, 14 wickets in the One-Day competition and 15 wickets during the HRV Cup. He was also quite handy batting in the lower order, scoring 147 runs across the three formats.

Knights pace bowler secures Plunket Shield Mitre 10 MVP award

Knights’ pace bowler Graeme Aldridge dominated the top 10 for the majority of the Plunket Shield season and made a late surge last week to make it to the top spot.

Aldridge contributed a number of match winning performances with the ball. He was the leading wicket taker during the Plunket Shield, claiming 39 scalps. He also gained a personal best of 6/49 against the Central Stags in the second round.

Aldridge said he is delighted to have won the Mitre 10 MVP award for the Plunket Shield and to help his team lift the trophy this year.. “It is pleasing that my individual success contributed to taking the Plunket Shield title for the Knights,” he said. “And I wanted to say thank you for Mitre 10 for sponsoring the MVP.”

Last year he came in at 20th position on the four-day MVP table.

Vettori secures international Mitre 10 MVP award

BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori capped off an excellent summer of personal performances to take out the Mitre 10 MVP international award.

Vettori was the clear leader on the MVP table with 317.20 points, almost 100 points ahead of Brendon McCullum, his nearest rival. Vettori scored 366 runs with the bat during the Bangladesh and Australian series and he took 28 wickets with the ball.
