Coaches are crucial to help cricketers reach their potential. New Zealand Cricket's coach development programme is about developing coaches at all levels, from beginner to elite.

Whether you are a first time coach involved in helping out at your local school or club, or coaching the BLACKCAPS or White Ferns, all coaches have the opportunity to have a positive influence on the individuals you coach.

You can have an important impact with our New Zealand cricketers of the future. Whether assisting with fundamental skills, allowing players to learn by providing a variety of experiences or by instilling the love of the game in your players.

I wish you all well in your future coaching endeavours, whatever level that maybe.

Coaching pathway

From parents wanting to support their child's sport, to experienced coaches wanting to take a step up, the New Zealand Cricket Coaching Pathway has what you need to develop your coaching skills.

The pathway has four coaching stages: Foundation, Development, Performance, and High Performance, designed to develop coaches who understand the in-depth requirements and needs of their players.

Learn more about these stages and the resources available to help you develop your coaching skills:

Foundation Coach

The Foundation Coaching stage is for parents, teachers or volunteers who organise and coach 5-10 year old primary students playing cricket in schools or clubs.

Development Coach

The Development Coaching stage is for coaches, parents, teachers or volunteers who organise and coach 9-18 year old primary, intermediate, or secondary students playing junior or youth cricket for schools or clubs. This stage focuses on furthering the fundamental skills of 'how to coach', including planning, the principles of biomechanics, and an understanding of effective team coaching and the game.

Performance Coach

The Performance Coaching stage is for coaches of 11 a-side teams who have an active coaching record and a commitment to coaching. It concentrates on detailed planning and evaluation, understanding and using the principles of biomechanics to coach, analysing and improving skills, understanding the coaching process and effective team coaching, including game tactics.

High Performance Coach

The High Performance Coaching stage is designed for NZC's elite and professional coaches who are active and practising in the High Performance area. Acceptance onto this course is by invitation only.
